Theatre on the Ridge Announces its 2023 Season

After three years of uncertainty, Theatre on the Ridge is making big plans to embrace the return to live theatre, with the announcement of our 10th anniversary season for 2023. From summer outdoor theatre at Scugog Shores Museum to staged readings and special events, including a March Break production for young audiences, Theatre on the Ridge will continue to captivate audiences throughout 2023.

The year gets underway in February with two staged reading events for Black History Month –

The Story of Samuel Stout – Next Stage and a book reading of Newton Vanriel’s children’s book The Adventures of the Soul Sista’s.

Next up, our remount of the 2021 backyard production of The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe will tour various locations in Durham during the March Break to delight audiences of all ages.

In May, we officially kick off our 10th anniversary, and the first summer under our own “big top” tent at Scugog Shores Museum, with a special Tent For The Tenth Event, followed by a summer of three outstanding and diverse theatre productions – On A First Name Basis by Norm Foster, Innocence Lost: A Play About Steven Truscott by Beverley Cooper and a new original work inspired by the magic of the circus, created by Andy Massingham.

September will see the culmination of two years of creation and development, as we premiere the full stage production of Uju Umenyi’s play about Samuel Stout. This powerful and touching play of Port Perry’s first Black resident met with rave reviews at its first public reading last fall.

The company returns to its roots in November, when it presents a very special staged reading of Vimy by Vern Thiessen for Remembrance Day. Vimy was the very first production for Theatre on the Ridge (then Theatre 3×60) and members of the original casts have been invited back to join us onstage once again.

Three popular events created during the pandemic also return for 2023: Snapshots Short Play Festival, Scary Story Walks and Christmas on the Ridge, with a Christmas Carol in the Village new event in the works.

Time-limited offers for season passes and bundles are on sale now, including a new Under 25/Student/Arts Worker package for the full year. Individual summer performance tickets go on sale April 1 and gift certificates are available anytime.
