Announcing the Blackstock United Cultural Centre!
The Blackstock Nestleton United Church, a longstanding community hub, closed in 2026. Theatre on the Ridge will transform the property into the Blackstock United Cultural Centre. The creation of the Blackstock United Cultural Centre will see Theatre on the Ridge continue the delivery of its mandate of enriching lives through people, performances, programs and partnerships and by bringing people together across generations, interests and experiences.
The Centre will be a permanent year-round home for the company and a continuing community space for individuals and organizations. A sense of place is essential to longevity for Theatre on the Ridge, and after 13 years we have outgrown our nomadic existence. We are seeking greater stability for all aspects of our charitable organization – performance, community programming and operations. We are looking to put down roots with the Blackstock United Cultural Centre.
Theatre on the Ridge has a history of working with community members and organizations and it’s time to put down roots. In addition to being our home, the Centre will be available for rental to organizations such as Lake Scugog Historical Society, Scugog Arts, Scugog Studio Tour and others, providing community programming, exhibitions and events. The Centre also works for efficient and secure operations, meetings and archive space.
With a permanent home, Theatre on the Ridge can grow from seasonal offerings to year-round activity, support all types of cultural and heritage activities, expand existing programs and administration needs, and add over 2,000 hours of new community programming within the first year.
Imagine theatre and arts classes, art & heritage exhibitions, book clubs, readings, concerts, movie nights, practice space, morning yoga, games nights, coffee mornings, lending library and private rentals, available daily, weekly, seasonally, and year-round.
We are now seeking the community’s support, from donations to major gifts, to realize this transformative opportunity.
Supporting the Blackstock United Cultural Centre, through a large or small donation, is a rare opportunity to preserve a gathering place and create a new cultural space for North Durham.
