The Scugog Stories We Tell – Staged Reading & Season Benefit

April 25 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

A collection of short local heritage plays by the artists of Theatre on the Ridge to support the 2026 summer season.

Over the years, Theatre on the Ridge has reanimated local heritage by creating 15 short plays rooted in the history of Scugog.

For the first time, these stories have been
gathered in historical chronological order to revisit Scugog’s past from the early 1800’s to the very recent past of 2024.

Spend an evening with the notable names and personalities that helped shape Scugog into the vibrant community we know today.

Written and performed by the artists of Theatre on the Ridge, these Scugog Stories are drawn from creative projects such as
Pine Grove Plots: History to Die For and Blackstock and Beyond.

These short vignettes bring local writings and archive records to life – from the earliest settlers to contemporary residents of the 20th century, from the well documented history of the
Crandells and McCaws to single anecdotes of extraordinary moments, to the history of
Lake Scugog itself.

To round out the heritage-rich experience, there will be an original map of Pine Grove Cemetery and an onsite exhibit prepared by the Lake Scugog Historical Society – Memories of Methodism in Scugog – exploring the loss of Methodist Churches in Scugog and across Canada.
