Port Perry, ON – On Wednesday, the Hon. Todd McCarthy, MPP for Durham had the chance to speak with representatives from Theatre on the Ridge about what’s been achieved because of receiving a $195,200 Resilient Communities Fund grant from the provincial government’s Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF). The two-year long grant, awarded in 2023, has helped the group build resilience by improving program and service delivery with staff, expertise, equipment and to develop a new strategic plan.
“Our government believes that organizations like Theatre on the Ridge 3×60 enrich the lives of the people in the Township of Scugog providing residents with more opportunities to pursue the arts,” said Todd McCarthy, MPP for Durham. “As the Ontario Trillium Foundation is funded by the Ontario Government, this Resilient Communities Fund grant which was awarded in 2023 has supported Theatre on the Ridge with their annual Summer Festival, offered more programs for artists and musicians, and provided more summer employment opportunities for our local youth.”
Funds from the grant were used to provide dedicated staff, expertise and technical equipment resources to support the company’s ongoing sustainability, including the development of a strategic plan. The project has helped the group to build on its resilience and sustainability following the impacts created by the pandemic.
“This two-year grant has been essential to our pandemic recovery and to building the resources and strategic plan necessary to take us into our second decade of providing high quality programs and productions to the community,” said Carey Nicholson, Artistic Director and General Manager.
Theatre on the Ridge is committed to broadening understanding and empathy between individuals and communities by telling individual and collective stories through high calibre productions, the creation of new plays and the development of new artists.
