There’s no denying the popularity of musicals. And musicals adapted from previous works (like books and movies) are the cream of the popularity crop. In the past 30 years, 83% of the Tony Award winners for Best Musical were adaptations. Would it not stand to reason, then, that the ultimate musical would be an adaptation of . . . other musicals? Enter The Musical of Musicals (The Musical!), a clever show made up of five one-act musicals, all with variations on the same characters and plot, but each walking the fine line between homage and parody, inspired by the titans of musical theatre: Rodgers & Hammerstein, Stephen Sondheim, Jerry Herman, Andrew Lloyd Webber, and the team of Kander & Ebb. Theatre on the Ridge is excited to be presenting this fun musical production as a part of its summer festival.
